Today is Thursday, July 3, 2008

It continues to be very nice. Cool...highs near 80 , dry cool breezes. Lows in the high 40'sF to 50F (ish). Blue skies with white puffy clouds blowing by. Beautiful vegetation, some wildlife, great staff and lots of visitors. All in all, pretty nice up here (away from the real world).I think this place is a special experience. More now than ever.

Energy/Environmental update...For those of you who might be interested, our dual flush commodes are a big hit, the tankless water heaters are working, the solar panels are working, both company vehicles continue to run on waste vegetable oil, and the dining room airconditioners (though they suck the kilowatts) are making our visitors very happy on those rare, hot days.

And, it is comments like the following that are helping me get over the sticker shock of our renovation...(Check out the new images of it I just posted)
"Bruce, Came up last week and stayed at Tree Tops... I cried when I went out on the porch. Pisgah is my favorite place in the world, and I was so impressed and pleased with the new building and the renovations. It's just beautiful... Thanks for always e-mailing back and for preserving the integrity and rustic beauty of the most beautiful inn in the world. See you soon!!!"

Thanks to all of you for your kind comments and encouragement. My vision is to give you a great experience, at a price that we can all afford (me too), and be a radical environmentalist (testing every possible energy/green saving contraption). What more can I say? Let me have my fun. I think of it as a win win.

In the spirit of full and complete disclosure, I have to tell you all something....our rates have changed for hotel rooms. Our rates now start at $108 per night. This is an increase of $5 per night. We will honor any and all reservations already booked at the original rate. There are differing rates for weekends and holidays. Please call for details. In a nutshell, we had to raise our rates to keep up with rising costs. We waited as long as we could. Sorry. We think we are still a bargain compared to most other places around here. I welcome your comments and questions. Just know that it was a hard decision, but we had to make it. Deliveries, utilities, food, and all other costs have gone up significantly since the beginning of this season. Drive up employees were singing the blues about the cost of gas to get to and from work. We were all being squeezed. Had to look for ways to keep the business viable without sacrificing service and quality. As I said, we think we are still a bargain. Also, we (myself and the entire staff) pledge to try to give you better service, better quality and a better experience for your money. We realize that we need to give something back to you to keep your business. We have all pledged to work harder for you.
